our covenant.

Hello, it's being a while. Look at the inch of dust that has hidden you away from the light! I miss you God my Lord, my first love. It is You who had taught me to love, and yet, shamefully & unfaithfully, my pride & vanity has eclipsed your beauty for such a long time.

Today, I am reminded of our covenant, the covenant which has no hidden clauses. The covenant which has everything to my benefit & nothing yours. The covenant which speaks of love that abounds, love that compels.

----

Psalm 103

Of David.

Praise the Lordmy soul;
    all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the Lordmy soul,
    and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins
    and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
    and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
    so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
The Lord works righteousness
    and justice for all the oppressed.
He made known his ways to Moses,
    his deeds to the people of Israel:
The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
    slow to anger, abounding in love.
He will not always accuse,
    nor will he harbor his anger forever;
10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve
    or repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
    so great is his love for those who fear him;
12 as far as the east is from the west,
    so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
13 As a father has compassion on his children,
    so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
14 for he knows how we are formed,
    he remembers that we are dust.
15 The life of mortals is like grass,
    they flourish like a flower of the field;
16 the wind blows over it and it is gone,
    and its place remembers it no more.
17 But from everlasting to everlasting
    the Lord’s love is with those who fear him,
    and his righteousness with their children’s children
18 with those who keep his covenant
    and remember to obey his precepts.
19 The Lord has established his throne in heaven,
    and his kingdom rules over all.
20 Praise the Lordyou his angels,
    you mighty ones who do his bidding,
    who obey his word.
21 Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts,
    you his servants who do his will.
22 Praise the Lord, all his works
    everywhere in his dominion.
Praise the Lord, my soul.

a romantic story.

it was said that while he was steward over great things, greater was his loneliness. so he was brought before millions, in search for one to fill the gap. but such was his disappointment when the grueling task was finally completed, for he can find no one. therefore he was placed to sleep, and out of his bones & flesh she was made. when he finally awoke & laid eyes on her, his heart glowed with inspiration as he broke out into a poetry of praise.

God's (continuing) work in my heart

"For when God rules in a human heart, though He may sometimes have to remove certain of its native authorities altogether, He often continues others in their offices and, by subjecting their authority to His, gives it for the first time a firm basis" - cs lewis

the greater happiness

"I believe all men have this in common: that they want to be happy. They do not all agree on what brings the greatest happiness, but they do all long to have it. And this longing is not bad. It is good. Evil consists in trying to find happiness in ways that displease and dishonor God. Goodness consists in finding happiness in ways that please and honor God. We can conceive of a world in which we might be called upon to do right at the expense of our ultimate happiness. But that is not the world in which we live. God has established this world in such a way that doing good through faith in Christ always leads to greater happiness eventually. We do not live in a world where we must choose between our eternal happiness and God's glory! God has created this world and its moral laws in such a way that the more we choose to glorify God, the happier we will be." - john piper on desiringgod.org.

craving for happiness.

best song ever, chris rice

"maybe i will be on my feet
in a crowd of strangers & things
the spotlight is on someone else
but i will feel like i'm part of the show
the feeling is magic
and why does it bring together like this?"

Why can we throw a question further than we can pull in an answer?

resisting chocolates is the hardest thing to do.

hello shuks,
you will be diligent & thrifty
and save lots of money

hello to whoever you are
the one who said that the root of all evil is money,
you obviously don't read food blogs in the middle of the night.

i might be stingy to a road bike, a toy camera or a kindle... but
hey hello glorious food,
i will not be stingy to you!

if i ever think myself silly again,

better is one thought of You,
than a thousand thoughts elsewhere.

in the process

the challenge is not in determining what is the right thing to do. rather, it's in ensuring God is still my king throughout the journey. quoting CS Lewis, 'very often what God first helps us towards is not the virtue itself, but just this power of always trying again.'

Wednesday, February 2

i feel like watching a nice movie
with someone clever.

happy salad.

i feel happy, like a kid who's finally learnt to plait her hair. i just packed salad into a lunch box for work tomorrow! little achievements. it's a trivial matter, i know. but it makes me warm & fuzzy inside, to see the red cherry tomatoes & bright orange baby carrots sitting on a tower of romanie & iceberg lettuce leaves :)

the rain may have been dreary,
but it has taught me to appreciate little happy things.
the cup of hot tea wouldn't have tasted as good, and
salad-making wouldn't have been as happy-fying
if not for the chilling gloomy rain.

on quotes

Once you have flown, you will walk the Earth with your eyes turned skyward; for there you have been, there you long to return. - leonardo da vinci

correct me if i'm wrong, but i guess the beauty of quotes lie in how succinctly they can portray a mixture of emotions and understandings that a single word will not be able to describe.
